HON. DR. CLETUS BAKO SHURKUK ATTENDS NATIONAL DATA PRIVACY AND PROTECTION SUMMIT 4th February, 2026

The Honourable Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, attended the National Data Privacy and Protection Summit, themed “Privacy in the Era of Emerging Technologies,” convened by the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Dr. Shurkuk participated alongside key stakeholders from across the country, reinforcing Plateau State Government’s commitment to responsible innovation, ethical use of emerging technologies, and the protection of citizens’ personal data. He was accompanied by the Director-General of the Plateau Information Technology Development Agency (PITDA), Engr. Dominic G. Datong. The summit emphasized the need to safeguard data privacy amid rapid technological advancement, particularly in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, while ensuring that innovation aligns with citizens’ rights and national regulations. Stakeholders also called for stronger collaboration between government, industry, regulators, and civil society to build a harmonized data protection framework that supports Nigeria’s digital transformation. Plateau State continues to align with national policies, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (2023), to promote a secure, trusted, and inclusive digital ecosystem.
