The Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has declared the 13th National Council Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE), open.

The five-days convergence of Nigeria’s top technology policymakers and innovators. Hosted at the Crispan Suites and Event Centre, the meeting themed “Accelerating Inclusive Digital Transformation : Bridging Gaps and Fostering Sustainable Growth Through Innovation” set the tone for a renewed nationwide push toward digital inclusion and economic modernization. Represented by the Plateau State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, Governor Mutfwang welcomed delegates from across the federation, declaring Plateau State ready to champion a national movement toward a digitally empowered society. The governor emphasized that inclusive access to technology remains the backbone of modern development. He urged stakeholders to “empower communities, unlock opportunities, and ensure every Nigerian has a seat in the digital future,” reaffirming Plateau’s commitment to innovation, startup growth and partnerships with global tech bodies. Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Lamba Peter Bot, expressed delight at hosting the prestigious council. He described the gathering as a powerful opportunity for states to unite behind a shared technological destiny. Bot called on participants to double efforts in bridging the divide between the connected and unconnected, noting that youth empowerment, digital literacy and sustainable innovation must remain at the heart of national planning. Setting the federal tone, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, stressed that the year’s theme represents an urgent national call. He highlighted that digital technology now shapes every major sector and must be fully harnessed to drive Nigeria’s economic future. Gagare underscored priorities including : Expanding broadband access Strengthening digital skills Protecting citizens through sound regulation Creating an innovation-friendly environment Positioning Nigeria as a global digital hub Dr. Datong Dominic Gwanman, Director General of PICTDA, said Plateau is already shifting from manual processes to data-driven systems,starting with full digitalization of school management. Mr. Abba Guguwa, Permanent Secretary, Kano Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, emphasized establishing robust memos to guide institutional transformation. Dr. Garba Gandu, Senior Technical Adviser at NERDC, highlighted the urgency of adopting global best practices, enhancing digital skills and boosting competitiveness in the fast-evolving technology era. To close the session, Engr. Gagare reviewed key memoranda focused on rural telecommunications, data privacy, sustainable digital practices, job creation and mandatory capacity-building,critical steps toward a stronger, more inclusive digital economy.
